
Prof. Ali Cheshmehzangi

Biography:
Ali Cheshmehzangi is a Professor at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning, University of Queensland, leading research in architecture, design, and urbanism. Recognized by Stanford University as a top 2% global field leader for two consecutive years and among the top 30 scholars in urban sustainability, he is internationally known for his work on climate resilience and sustainable urbanism. Ali serves as Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Urban Sustainability book series and holds five academic degrees, including a PhD in Architecture and Urban Design. He has extensive university leadership experience and holds honorary roles at Hiroshima University’s Network for Education and Research on Peace and Sustainability (NERPS). Ali collaborates with major organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, UN-Habitat, ICLEI, Arup, Siemens, and others. He supervises numerous PhD students in urban sustainability and built environment research and welcomes new candidates interested in impactful, applied research. Ali is active internationally across Australia, Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa, focusing on meaningful research that benefits local communities with global perspectives. He has published over 500 papers and 26 books on sustainable urban development, with several receiving national and international awards, including recognition for his contributions to urban resilience and higher education.

Prof. Sisi Zlatanova

Biography:
Sisi Zlatanova is a Professor and internationally recognised researcher in 3D spatial modelling, geoinformatics, and surveying, with academic and industry experience across Europe, Asia, and Australia. As Head of the GRID Lab, I lead research in voxel modelling, 3D navigation, agentic spatial digital twins, AI-supported simulations, and LLM-based interfaces for querying and interacting with complex 3D spatial data. Her research focus on geospatial information systems, data structures, database management, photogrammetry and remote sensing, surveying, conceptual modelling, mobile technologies.

Prof. Ying Long
Tsinghua University, China
Biography:
Long Ying is a tenured full professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University. His research focuses on the science and technology of urban and rural planning. He has led one major project subtopic and two general projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has published more than 300 academic papers. He serves as a council member of the China Society of Urban Science, chief expert of the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Science and Technology Innovation Team, director of the Ministry of Education’s Virtual Teaching and Research Office, deputy director of a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, deputy director of a key research base of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, member of the Smart City Professional Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, deputy chair and secretary-general of the Urban Big Data Professional Committee of the China Society of Urban Science, and deputy chair of the Professional Committee on New Technologies for Urban Planning Applications of the Urban Planning Society of China. He has received honors including the National Youth Talent Program, the China Urban Planning Youth Science and Technology Award, the National Excellence Engineering Survey and Design Gold Award, the National First-Class Undergraduate Course award, the Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award, and the Beijing Science and Technology Award. He has also been listed for many years among Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers and the world’s top 2% scientists (lifetime scientific impact list).

Prof. Qingyu Zhang
Zhejiang University, China
Biography:
Prof. Qingyu Zhang is an Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor at the College of Environmental and Resource Sciences, Zhejiang University. Her research primarily focuses on pollutant emission inventories, environmental pollutant dispersion modeling, the health impacts of pollutants, environmental costs, environmental carrying capacity, multi-scale environmental risk zoning, risk source identification, and emergency response to pollution accidents. She has led two major public welfare projects funded by the former Ministry of Environmental Protection of China and research projects from the National Development and Reform Commission, completed two projects supported by the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and participated in one project each from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National High-Tech R&D Program (863 Program). Prof. Zhang has published over 30 academic papers in journals such as Atmospheric Environment, Energy Policy, Journal of Environmental Sciences, China Environmental Science, and Journal of Zhejiang University, including 12 SCI/EI-indexed papers; she has also authored two textbooks and monographs and holds eight authorized or pending patents.

Prof. Liang Emlyn Yang
Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany
Biography:
Prof. Liang Emlyn Yang is a geographer at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) specializing in human-environment interactions, long-term climate impacts, and social resilience. With over 60 peer-reviewed publications, his research integrates household surveys, network analysis, agent-based modeling, and GIS to advance climate-resilient development. He currently leads the €1.5 million ERC Starting Grant project “STORIES,” which analyzes the millennial dynamics of flood impacts and social resilience in the Mekong River Basin across hydrological, economic, and cultural dimensions. Dr. Yang also fosters global academic exchange by managing large-scale Climate Resilience communities on Google Groups and WeChat and organizing related lectures. His editorial work includes the Springer volume“Socio-Environmental Dynamics along the Historical Silk Road” (2019) and seven chapters in the German textbook“China – Geographien einer Weltmacht.” Dr. Yang holds a Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg (2014), a Master’s from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Bachelor’s from Southwest University. Previously, he served as a teaching assistant at Hamburg and Kiel Universities and as a consultant for the World Future Council on urban regeneration in China.

Assoc. Prof. Jianxiang Huang
Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, China
Biography:
Huang Jianxiang is a tenured associate professor and doctoral supervisor at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and deputy director of the Institute of Future Human Settlements. He was selected for China’s National Young Talent Program. His research focuses on sustainable high-density cities, urban performance simulation and optimization, and urban data analysis, supported by grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, and health research funding bodies. He has published over 50 papers and developed a series of software tools for sustainable design evaluation and optimization, which have been applied in real projects in Hong Kong, Singapore, Hangzhou, and other cities. He has organized numerous urban design courses in China and abroad, with teaching recognized by international awards. He is a U.S. registered planner and LEED-accredited professional, and has served on committees of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, the World Meteorological Organization and World Health Organization Heat Health Information Network, and the Chinese Society of Urban Planning and Design. He previously taught at the University of Hong Kong and was a visiting professor at Gdansk University of Technology through the EU Erasmus program. He holds degrees from Tsinghua University, MIT, and Harvard GSD, and formerly worked at Sasaki Associates, where his projects won multiple international awards.

Prof. Tian Chen

Biography:
Dr. Tian Chen is a full professor and doctorial tutor in the Department of Urban and Rural Planning as well as the director of the Research Institute of City Space & Urban Design at Tianjin University. Additionally, Dr. Chen is a National 1st Class Registered Architect and served as a committee member in China Green Building Committee, a committee member of APEC joint project operation center of sustainable city, a committee member in the Rural Planning & Construction Committee of Urban Planning Society of China, the managing director and the chairman of the Academic Committee of Urban Planning Society of Tianjin, the deputy director of Tianjin Ecological Engineering Center for Urban Renewal, the deputy chief planner of the Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design & Urban Planning. Dr. Chen is also a professional reviewer and associate editor of the journal of City Planning Review. Dr. Chen was awarded as one of the first Tianjin Urban Planning Masters. Dr. Chen has been engaged in teaching and researching for a long time in the field of urban planning and made abundant achievements in urban ecological planning, urban design and neighborhood planning. Dr. Chen has conducted and participated in more than 10 national or provincial research projects, and published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles in academic journals and conference proceedings, as well as 6 professional monographs and translation books. Dr. Chen works as the principle designer for more than 80 architecture design, urban planning and urban design projects and wins more than 10 national and provincial design prizes.

Prof. Baojie He

Biography:
Dr. Baojie He is a Professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University, a Bayu Scholar, a doctoral supervisor, the Head of the Research Center for Climate Resilience and Low-Carbon Cities, and a Researcher at the Institute for Sustainable Development and Peace Education, Hiroshima University, Japan. He was consecutively named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate in both 2022 and 2023. Dr. He focuses on urban heat mitigation and adaptation under global and local climate change, zero-energy buildings, and passive residential design. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed papers in SCI and SSCI journals, with an H‑index of 44. He has served as a topic editor, lead guest editor, associate editor, editorial board member, conference chair, session chair, scientific committee member, and invited reviewer for various internationally renowned journals. He received the Sustainable Young Scientist Award in 2022, the Green Talent Award (Germany) in 2021, and the National Outstanding Self‑Financed Student Scholarship (China) in 2019. In addition, he has been consecutively listed among the world’s top 2% scientists from 2020 to 2023.
